2000 Ford Taurus

The 2000 Ford Taurus represented a substantial improvement over the previous generation, which was the third. Ford strove for a streamlined and modern style, which lends the automobile an appearance that is not only functional but also refined. In addition, the manufacturer abandoned its preoccupation with ovals, incorporated more angular lines, and increased the amount of space inside the interior, transforming the vehicle into more of a sports sedan. Even though the 2000 Ford Taurus has been available to consumers for a considerable time, it continues to pique their interest.

Overview:

The 2000 Ford Taurus has 6 trim levels:

  • SVG
  • Comfort
  • LX
  • SES
  • SE
  • SEL

Performance and Fuel Economy

Every trim level has one package available, except the SE, which offers two. The entry-level model is powered by a 155-horsepower, 3.0-liter V6 engine paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The powertrain for this model is a front-wheel drive.

The powertrains of the 2000 Ford Taurus have been improved to produce more power, have more torque in the intermediate, and generate less NVH. Both the Vulcan and the Duratec V6s can now produce 155 and 200 horsepower, respectively. Transmissions have been improved using new technology to make shifting more seamless.

Design

When you get behind the wheel of the new Ford Taurus, you’ll find that the cabin, controls, and instruments are all impressively uncomplicated, uncomplicated, and easy to operate. Even drivers with very short legs will be able to find a comfortable driving posture in a Taurus thanks to the vehicle’s adjustable pedals, which have received a lot of attention. The steering wheel is coated in leather and has a tiny circumference, and its grip is satisfyingly substantial. The cruise control is operated by buttons conveniently located on the steering wheel and is not difficult to use.

Driver Controls

White lettering on a black background makes the extremely readable dashboard instruments, which feature an analog speedometer and tachometer, easy to see. The windshield washer and wipers, as well as the bright/dim control for the headlights, are all controlled by a single stalk to the left of the steering column. The power window automatic-down circuit is exclusively responsible for the window operation on the driver’s side, and there is no automatic-up function. An on/off button for the SE’s traction control is located on the dashboard directly below the tachometer. This switch is helpful while driving with chains or in snowy conditions.

Center Console HVAC and Audio

The central panel that controls the audio and the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems is a frightening sea of push buttons and toggle switches that all appear similar. To use the controls on this panel takes extremely careful reading of the many buttons that are tightly placed, even though the Taurus is ergonomically superior in other areas of the vehicle. The cassette changer for six CDs, which could be removed if necessary, was cunningly hidden in the center console to the right of the driver’s elbow. Excellent.

Mirrors, Visors and Comfort

Although the center console is outfitted with a pair of foldable cupholders, the swing arm that is supposed to keep your cup in place was not as firmly attached as it should have been. Our SE model was equipped with a sunroof that could tilt and slide uniquely. Simply pressing the button once was necessary to get the sunroof going; after that, it opened on its own—a brilliant suggestion. Maintaining pressure on the button was necessary to close the optional sunroof. A rheostat is a unique addition to each of the LED vanity mirrors in the SE Comfort’s two front visors. This allows the brightness of the mirrors to be adjusted as desired.
