2019 Ford Fusion
Ford revised the look of the front and back ends of the ’19 Ford Fusion sedan, in addition to introducing two new wheel styles and color choices. The four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a capacity of 1.5 liters is now standard equipment in the SE grade with the next-lowest price.
The battery pack in the plug-in Energi variant has been changed, allowing for a slightly greater range while driving only on electric power (from 21 miles to 25 miles). Some of the most popular customization choices have recently been converted into standard features, which has reduced the number of available construction alternatives for the outgoing Fusion.
Overview:
The 2019 Fusion is offered by Ford in 5 trim levels:
- S
- SE
- SEL
- Titanium
- Sport
Performance and Fuel Economy
The base level of the ’19 Ford Fusion’s powertrain options consists of a mediocre 175-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a respectable six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. All gasoline-powered versions of the Fusion come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. Upper trim levels provide the option of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with either 181 horsepower from a 1.5-liter or 245 horsepower from a 2.0-liter displacement. The 2.0-liter engine may be paired with an all-wheel drive if the customer chooses. All-wheel drive is standard on the Sport trim level, equipped with a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 that produces 325 horsepower.
Fuel Efficiency
There is also a hybrid version of the Fusion is on the market. This model has a continuously variable automatic gearbox (CVT), an electric motor, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. All of these components work together to produce 195 horsepower. Fuel efficiency ratings provided by the EPA for the 2019 model year varied from 17/26 mpg in the Sport to 23/34 mpg with the 1.5-liter turbo-four engine.
Design, Comfort, and Quality
The ’19 Ford Fusion has received a few small upgrades this year, but those changes have had little impact on its overall appearance. The front fascia maintains the broad grille reminiscent of Aston Martin and has chrome horizontal bars. Below, new strakes in the front fascia of the Fusion house fog lights on higher-trim models, but on S and SE models, those spaces are filled with cheap-looking blanks.
Exterior
The Fusion’s trunk lid is rather short compared to the length of the roofline. This year, Fusion uses chrome more tastefully than in previous years. All non-hybrid SE and above trim levels of the Fusion feature exposed exhaust pipes, contributing to the vehicle’s aggressive appearance.
Interior
This model year brings new upholstery color options for the Fusion’s cabin. The basic Fusion model comes with a screen that is just 4.2 inches in size and is surrounded by physical buttons. However, an 8.0-inch touchscreen can be added for an additional cost on higher trim levels. The dashboard is highlighted by matte silver trim, although the assortment of organic forms seems archaic compared to other more contemporary competitors.
Storage
The Ford Fusion has a length of 192 inches and a wheelbase of 112.2 inches, which is sufficient to get it close to being classified as a full-size vehicle by the EPA. The trunk of a non-hybrid has a volume of 16 cubic feet. Both the Fusion Hybrid and the Fusion Energi use lithium-ion batteries, which significantly reduces the amount of luggage capacity available in both vehicles; the Fusion Hybrid has just 12 cubic feet of room, while the Fusion Energi has only 8.2 cubic feet.
Comfort
In all variants, the front seats are supportive seats with a lumbar adjustment for the driver. The regular material has a sturdy texture, but the monotonous beige and black colors are not very exciting. The Fusion Titanium and Fusion Sport, are upholstered in genuine leather, but the Fusion SEL is upholstered in new synthetic leather material.
