2015 Nissan Altima

The 2015 Nissan Altima is a midsize family sedan. It is available in four grades with two engine options. The Altima’s sole gearbox is Nissan’s continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The Nissan Altima has always been a top choice family sedan, and the 2015 model is no different. It provides impressive acceleration and excellent fuel economy with both of its engine options. This added with the fact that it provides above-average cabin quality while making no compromise on safety with an NHTSA rating of 5, makes it a good buy even today.

Overview of the car

The 2015 Nissan Altima has two main engine configurations: the 2.5-liter four-cylinder and the 3.5-liter V6. Further, it includes four trims levels, the base variant, S, SV, and SL.

2.5 base variant

The base variant starts with 16-inch steel wheels, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, a CD player, four-speaker sound system, and an auxiliary input jack. It also comes with a 4.3-inch information display in the gauge cluster.

2.5 S

The 2.5 S Altima adds cruise control, a six-speaker audio system, automatic headlights, and keyless ignition and entry. It also provides an optional six-way power-adjustable driver seat and is also eligible for the Display Audio Package. This package includes a 5-inch touchscreen display, a USB port, a rearview camera, satellite radio, and NissanConnect. The NissanConnect is Nissan’s smartphone app integration system.

3.5 V6 S

The S trim of the V6 engine provides all the 2.5 base and 2.5 S features, including the Display Audio Package as standard. Along with this, it also includes steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and upgrades to 18-inch alloy wheels.

2.5 SV

Being an upgrade to the 2.5 SL, the 2.5 SV trim includes the Display Audio Package as standard. It also includes 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat, including controls for power lumbar adjustment. The SV further adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote ignition, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

2.5 SL

The SL being the highest trim boasts the best features in the lineup. Already equipped with all the features of the 2.5 SV the 2.5 SL adds LED taillights, a heated steering wheel, a nine-speaker Bose audio system, and a powered front passenger seat with four-way adjustment. Two additional packages are also available for the 2.5 SL trim: the convenience and the technology package. The convenience package includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a sunroof, and rear AC vents, while the technology package upgrades the touchscreen to 7-inches and adds a navigation system and voice controls. Electronic safety features like lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts are also included in the technology package.

3.5 V6 SV and SL

Both the 3.5 SV and 3.5 SL are similar to their 2.5 counterparts, however, the contents of the convenience and technology package come as standard in both 3.5 SV and 3.5 SL. The 3.5 SL has also got xenon headlights and in its later models is equipped with parking sensors as well.

All the trims of the 2015 Nissan Altima have a front-wheel-drive system and a CVT gearbox. Talking first about the 2.5-liter trims, these come equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 182 horsepower and 180-pound-feet torque. As mentioned above, the Altima does not disappoint when it comes to economy driving, with impressive fuel economy numbers of 27 mpg (miles per gallon) in the city and 38 mpg on the highway or a combined 31 mpg.

The V6 engine does not fall short either. The 3.5-liter Altima comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that puts out a respectable 270 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque. It gives fuel economy estimates of around 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway or a combined 26 mpg.

The 0-60 miles times are quite surprisingly very good with a 2.5-liter Altima going from 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds which is relatively quick for a four-cylinder family sedan. The 3.5-liter V6 Altima performs even better with a 0-60 mph time of 6.2 seconds.

The 2015 Nissan Altima has one of the best interiors in its class. The quality of materials is top-notch, and you can feel that high-end materials have been used. This makes the simply designed cabin a comfortable and pleasing place to be in, while room for the front driver and passenger is ample anyone above 6-ft will have problems in the back seat where headroom and legroom are not that great. Talking about the boot, while its size is relatively standard at 15.4 cubic feet, it makes up for it with a wider opening for easy loading and unloading.

As mentioned above, the 2015 Altima has an impressive NHTSA rating of 5; along with this it comes equipped with stability and traction control plus antilock brakes and side curtain and front side airbags as standard. The rearview camera is standard on 3.5 S trim, and all SV and SL trims. It is optional on the 2.5 S trim. Features like rear traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning are available in 2.5 SV and SL and standard in 3.5 SV and SL.
