2021 FORD EDGE

This five-seat crossover SUV is the 2021 Ford Edge, which is the company’s best-selling model. It competes against various rivals, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Chevy Blazer, and the Honda Passport. However, even though Ford’s Edge is substantially older than virtually all of them, it has managed to stay up with the times’ thanks to its attractive design, excellent safety, and respectable comfort levels.

Overview:

The Ford Edge is offered in 5 trim levels in the 2021 model year:

  • ST: 21 combined MPG
  • SEL: 24 combined MPG
  • Titanium: All Wheel Drive
  • ST-Line: 8-Speed A/T
  • SE: 23 combined MPG

Performance

Although the 2021 Edge‘s ST model is a powerful one, its high advertised price is a problem. For the most part, the standard Edge SUVs are equipped with a 250-hp 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine mated to either an 8-speed automatic gearbox or all four wheels. A town-and-country crossover like this one doesn’t have a lot of speed, but it has more than enough power for the job.

Fuel Economy

Wheels with 20 or 21 inches are standard on the ST. Unlike a hybrid powertrain or cylinder shutoff technology, the Edge does not include gas-saving features like these. When compared to the competition, it’s only a little over ordinary. Automobiles powered by turbo-4 engines get combined fuel economy ratings of 21 city/highway/combined of 29/24 mpg.

Design

It begins with a familiar egg-shaped crossover design and then adds a large grille, cutting headlights, and thin roof pillars to distinguish itself from the competition. It’s a well-worn silhouette with a few interesting elements to enjoy. Titanium variants seem to be pretty high-end, and the ST makes a thrilling statement in the wind thanks to its large wheels and luxury color choices. The inside isn’t as crisp as the outside, and it has some unpleasant resemblance to the original Edge period. Aside from the large, optional 12-inch touchscreen, the interior is modest, if not downright sterile in places. Plastic covers a broad area, with little round buttons scattered around and glossy plastic displaying smudges more clearly than newly rained-on ink. There are also small round buttons scattered about.

Seating and Features

The Edge’s front seats, for example, are made of cloth and are both unpleasant and flat. Higher-end trims like the Titanium and ST cost more money, but they provide better support, only after you’ve spent $40,000 on them. Power-adjustable and heated front seats are standard in SEL and higher model levels. On the interior, the Edge is well-equipped with high-quality materials that feel good to the touch, but they’ve been around for decades. The round knobs and basic curves seen throughout the Edge’s interior have been in use for more than a decade. For a brief moment, the Edge ST’s 12-inch touchscreen supplies us with a technological monolith, but it isn’t enough to justify its exorbitant price.

Technology

It comes in a wide range of trims, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wi-fi hotspot, active safety precautions, and 18-inch alloy wheels are just some of the Edge SE’s many features. It’s a good deal to get a front-wheel-drive car for around $32,500. Buyers of SUVs who don’t need to accelerate swiftly but want the appearance of doing so may find the Edge ST-Line appealing. To be fair, the Edge ST won’t plow through many corners or drive straight through parking lots at the grocery store, for example.

Safety Features

Enhanced safety features, including automatic emergency braking, active lane controlling, and blind-spot monitoring, are standard on every Edge. In addition to a forward-facing camera and improved brakes, adaptive cruise control is offered on SEL and higher model levels.
