1984 Porsche 944

The Porsche 944 is a sports car manufactured by German automobile manufacturer Porsche from 1982 to 1991. The 1984 Porsche 944 was available in coupé or cabriolet body styles, with either naturally aspirated or turbocharged engines. Over 163,000 cars were produced but Porsche 944 was the most successful sports car in the history of Porsche until the Boxster and 997 Carrera. A sports car built with a lower price than the 911, but still able to offer the thrills of a Porsche. 994 was a true Porsche with a 2.5 liter, water-cooled, inline four-cylinder engine that was designed by the approximation of half of the 928’s V-8.

A rear-mounted five-speed transaxle gave excellent weight distribution.  While the interior remained the same as 924. The 944’s box-flared exterior design reflected that of the 924 Carrera GT road and race cars for a much more hostile look more befitting of Porsche’s brand image. Diligently built with top-quality components, the 1984 Porsche 944 was expensive new but offers a lot for the money today, especially when you focus on remarkably good fuel economy and quite exceptional parts availability for a 1980s classic.

Pricing:

A 1984 Porsche 944 has the base-level, 143-hp, 2.5-liter inline-four engine and the antique 924-style interior, which is a desirable relic. An average 1984 Porsche 944 in good driving condition is worth perhaps $5,000 to $8,000, or about half the value of a comparable 944 S2 or early Turbo. The pricing also increases if customization is done to the car. The price solely depends on the condition of the car. The better the condition the expensive the car is. Beware corrosion, clocking, and misuse – they can turn your prize into misery. And a fastidious service history will repay a small price premium tenfold in the longer term.

Owner’s Manual

The 1984 Porsche 944 Owner’s Manual covers the specs, operation, and routine maintenance of the vehicle. Manuals for other years and manual types, including the Porsche 944 Service Manual and parts manuals, are also available.

Reliability:

These are very reliable unless taken good care of and regular maintenance is done. With the 944 also gaining value incredibly quickly in recent years, there’s been no better time to buy and enjoy yourself an affordable way into classic Porsche ownership. The car can never leave your back if it has been taken good care of. The more you take care of the car the more reliable it is and the more it would offer you as an investment. These antique cars can offer a heavy amount if found in good shape. A high-mileage car with full history is likely to be much less costly to run, at least in the short term, because a low-mileage car will probably have faulty electrics, seized brakes, and other problems related to limited usage. Beware of false low-mileage claims, too, especially on early cars with five-digit odometers. When buying old cars, a lot of things have to be kept in mind and the person who is buying has to have a very keen eye towards old cars. Many times a buyer doesn’t realize but afterward many issues arise. But if the seller is honest and keeps his/ her car well maintained then the buyer can easily rely on the car, and in the end, most importantly the buyer also has to look after the car and has to maintain it so that the car has a long life.

How many miles can it last?

If the Porsche is well maintained then it can easily last more than a hundred thousand miles. The standard maximum boost is 1.7-1.75 bar. Regularly look after the oil leaks from the powerful engine and the power steering. The oil pressure should be maintained at 5 bar at speed, 2-2.5 at hot idle. Again in the end everything depends on the health of the car. If the health is well the car is well. The more you give to the car, the more you will receive from it. Your time and energy would not be wasted if the car is good.
