2008 Acura TL

Since the TL is in its fifth model year, only a few changes have been made for the 2008 Acura TL. Acura has increased the number of metropolitan areas covered by its AcuraLink satellite navigation and traffic-reporting system by 32, bringing the total number of protected areas up to 76. Acura has also enhanced the real-time capabilities of AcuraLink. A warning light for the tire pressure monitoring system and two new exterior colors are the only improvements that have been made

beyond that.

Overview:

The 2008 Acura TL is offered in 4 trim levels:

  • 3.2 w/Navigation
  • Type S w/Navigation

  • Type S

Performance and Fuel Economy

The 2008 Acura TL‘s attractive grille may cover one of the car’s two engines. A smooth and strong engine in the TL produces 258 horsepower at 6200 RPM, peaking at an impressive 233 lb-ft of torque at 5500 RPM. The high-performance V-6 engine in the Type-S version of the TL is a 3.0-liter VTEC V-6. At 6200 revolutions per minute, this engine produces 286 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque.

The 5-speed automatic gearbox, standard on both models, has Sequential SportShift with Grade Logic Control. Compared to the premium RL car’s gearbox, this front-wheel-drive version’s gearbox features larger gears to support the engine’s strong torque output while preserving its tiny size. However, even though it is more powerful, the new 6-speed manual transmission is still smaller than the old 5-speed automatic. The TL Type-S versions include a more aggressive shift program and steering-wheel paddle shifters, similar to those used on F1 cars. The Sequential SportShift feature ensures a smooth downshift by blipping the throttle between gears. As a result, the ride is noticeably more comfortable, and the engine’s smoothness is enhanced.

The 2008 Acura TL Type-S has a limited-slip differential and a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox to boost traction and dynamic performance. All other TL models may be ordered with this transmission as an option. Acura’s commitment to making low-emission automobiles will go far into next year. CARB’s strict pollution standards may be met by the 3.2-liter V-6 engine in the TL and the 3.5-liter V-6 engine in the TL Type-S.

Design, Comfort, and Quality

The TL’s interior is a mix of luxurious and cutting-edge. You’ll find a three-spoke sports steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise controls and leather seats designed to enhance the driver and passenger’s degree of comfort on board. The TL and TL Type-S feature unique aluminum trim, and the gauges have construction that appears like spun metal with laser-etched numerals. Blue cockpit lighting and Grand Anigre wood patterned trim give the TL a more opulent feel, making the interior seem more elegant.

The red inside lighting, the carbon fiber-look trim, the TL Type-S symbol on the steering wheel’s bottom, and the engraved Type-S logo on the front seat headrests are all features of the sporty TL Type-S. Regarding power features, the TL starts at $33,725 and includes everything from heated side mirrors to an eight-way driver seat adjustment to a sunroof. Heated leather seats, dual-zone automatic temperature control, an eight-speaker AM/FM audio system with a six-disc CD changer, an MP3 aux connection, and an XM satellite radio are all included in this pricing.

Acura sells TLs with navigation systems as a distinct model, with a starting price of $38,225 for the base model. Satellite-based navigation with speech recognition and real-time traffic information, a rearview camera, and GPS-linked solar-sensing for the temperature control system is included in this pricing.
