2018 Jeep Compass

The 2018 Jeep Compass is Jeep’s other small crossover SUV offering.  The Compass is intended for comfort and comes in a size that is a half size smaller than the Cherokee but a half size larger than the Renegade. It has the appearance of the Grand Cherokee but is far more affordable.  It is no longer involved in selling the previous generation of the Compass, which was a hatchback that was confusingly marketed alongside the new car as a 2017 model. Forget it ever existed.

Overview:

The 2018 Jeep Compass is offered in 5 trim levels:

  • Sport
  • Altitude
  • Latitude
  • Limited
  • Trailhawk

Performance and Fuel Economy

Every 2018 Jeep Compass has a standard engine that is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower. On the Sport and Latitude versions, drivers can select a six-speed manual gearbox, which is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Alternatively, customers who would rather have an automatic transmission may choose between a six-speed unit that is standard on front-wheel-drive versions and a nine-speed one that is standard on all-wheel-drive Compasses.

The engine with its four cylinders and the gearbox with its nine gears are slow, making it difficult to make gear changes. The all-wheel-drive system that is optional on Jeeps is, on the other hand, by far the most competent in its category. The responsive Compass excels in its steering and handling, but its acceleration is nothing to write home about and may be tough to coax into existence. Even though there is slight body lean during sharp cornering, the Compass feels well-controlled, firmly planted, and competent when driving on the road.

Design, Comfort, and Quality

The 2018 Jeep Compass has a very professional appearance. Its baby-Grand-Cherokee appearance is consistent with one of the two recognized Jeep styles, the other being the round-eyed, hefty Wrangler look worn by the Renegade. Its external design may be its strongest asset, with a look that maintains one of the two known Jeep styles. The typical seven-slot grille that can be seen up front is not functional (the slots aren’t open), and the headlights appear to be taken from the Grand Cherokee. As with the rest of the Jeep, the wheel wells have a squared-off appearance.

Roofline and Grille

The most noticeable change is in the roofline, which has an appearance known as a “floating roof,” which is becoming all too commonplace in the design of brand-new automobiles these days. You can at least buy it in a color that contrasts with the body or matches it, so if you want the roof to blend into the body, you can do that. All of the references to the Grand Cherokee begin at the front. The Jeep SUV family’s grandfather is the inspiration for the seven-slot grille treatment on the Compass, which is then guilded with an abundance of metallic detail. Because of this, it neatly avoids the aesthetic tragedy of the mid-size Cherokee’s weak, narrow grille and strange split headlamps.

Interior

Jeep manages to pack a substantial interior into the tiny form of the Compass. The passengers will be required to share tight quarters—this is known as a compromise, people—but they won’t leave with any permanent folds or wrinkles they didn’t bring to the party. Jeep includes a driver seat allowing height adjustment standards on all Compass models. You will incur additional costs if you want electric driver assistance or a height-adjustable passenger seat. In any event, the chairs’ bottom cushions are somewhat small, and overall, the seats do not seem very cushioned. In addition, the head restraints in these vehicles are slanted too far forward, which is one of the ways that manufacturers try to get the highest possible crash scores. Because the Compass is a spin-off of the smaller Jeep Renegade, the front seats are positioned in a manner that is very near to one another.
