2014 Ford Escape

The well-received redesign is carried over into the 2014 Ford Escape, which carries over almost unmodified, except for removing the Escape SEL trim level. In addition, there is no need to make any adjustments to this model. The new appearance of the Escape is something that people in the United States are just now becoming used to seeing. You’ll recall that from 2001 until 2012, the Escape performed its best impersonation of the first-generation Explorer, down to the grille and window designs and even the out-of-date graining of the plastics found within the vehicle.

Overview:

The 2014 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels:

  • S
  • SE
  • Titanium

Performance and Fuel Economy

The compact crossover industry is quite competitive, and Ford has entered the market with the 2014 Escape as their product. The crossover has seating for five passengers and is positioned below the Explorer in the Ford range. It has modest towing capabilities but does not compromise its fuel efficiency. When equipped with the most powerful available 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four engine, it can haul up to 3,500 pounds. The EPA estimates that the 2.5-liter inline-four that comes standard on the 2014 Escape S will get 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the interstate. This engine produces 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.

The 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4 is standard on the SE and Titanium, and it generates 178 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque while producing 23/32 mpg with front-wheel drive (FWD) and 22/30 mpg with all-wheel drive (AWD). Both have an upgrade to a 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 as an option. This engine produces 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, achieving 22/30 mpg in FWD trim and 21/28 mpg with AWD. Even though the SE has a lesser 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, reviewers were thrilled with the Ford six-speed automatic transmission, standard equipment on all versions.

Design, Comfort, and Quality

The exterior design of the Escape has been updated to give it the appearance of a contemporary crossover vehicle. It has many superficial similarities to the newest Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and the Mazda CX-5. When you get a good look at the 2014 Ford Escape and its cute appearance, you notice that its design is like a cross between a hatchback and a pair of running shoes. With the larger snout, we get glimpses of a decent sport wagon (or sport sedan), and there is enough of the classic upturned back pillar to tell that some of the elements from the 2014 Ford Focus got it through here intact.

The Ford Focus is the vehicle on which this vehicle is based. When seen from the side, it has a kicky and dynamic appearance, but the front grille, which is about the size of a mail hole, is not working for us. When fitted with the slick-looking MyFord Touch electronics interface, the Escape’s cabin makes one feel as if they are driving a vehicle that is far more costly than it is. The Escape’s interior is supplied with high-quality materials.

However, the negative to this is that MyFord Touch may be difficult to use at times. Sluggish reaction times have been seen and there are a few uncomfortable faults in the cars tested. This is a drawback to the previously mentioned benefit. In addition, selecting all available packages raises the price of the 2014 Ford Escape over that of its immediate competitors. As long as you maintain a fair equipment level, though, it will continue to be a good bargain in this class.
