Price:
The Ford Explorers have always been generally more expensive than the other cars of the same type. Why? Mainly because of the exquisite quality that ford presents in this SUV especially and the range of rare features that usually are not found in other SUVs. Another plus point for the incremental in the price for this range of series was the introduction of the Turbo Engine. Other than that, it was their Platinum that added luxury. Such SUVs having a seating of 7 people almost are always expensive since they need a bigger body and a bigger engine. The starting MRSP of the 2016 Ford Explorer was $31,050, which varied quite a lot according to the changes.
Models and their prices:
There is plenty of price variations in the 2016 Ford Explorer. It was released in 5 trims; Base, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum. Their price differences are as follows:
Models | Prices |
Base | $31,050 |
XLT | $33,400 |
Limited | $41,300 |
Sport | $43,500 |
Platinum | $52,970 |
All of these 5 models come in 2 variations, except for Sport and Platinum which have a single Trim Level. Thus, a total of 9 options were introduced for the consumers to choose from. Let’s see how they differ among themselves.
The base model, being the cheapest of this SUV has 2 models; the 4WD 4dr Base and the FWD 4dr Base model. It has an engine of 280.0-hp, 2.3-liter, 4 Cylinder Engine (Gasoline Fuel), with 5 exterior colors only. An owner manual was included from base trim up. The difference is because of the type of drivetrain.
Pretty much similar to this is the XLT model again with 2 trim levels. The engine fitted into it is a 290.0-hp, 3.5-liter, V6 Cylinder Engine (Gasoline Fuel), with familiar drivetrain options. Adding to this its seating is lower, i.e., 6 but has more color options than 10. Nonetheless, it also has minute design changes.
Limited and Sports Editions
Continuing with it, the Limited model to has 2 further models, 4WD 4dr Limited & FWD 4dr Limited. Familiar to the models stated above, with pretty much the same variation, this Model has limited features that correlate to its interior and the overall experience of the ride. Such being the infotainment features and other aspects that are not present in the other trims.
The Sport edition has only one trim that is of its own. The best part of this trim is the Sports mode which is the newly introduced Turbo Mode. The engine is 365.0-hp, 3.5-liter, V6 Cylinder Engine (Gasoline Fuel), more powerful than the rest along with the turbo mode that makes the car shoot like a rocket whenever used. This big feature was surely a highlight point of the introduction of this car.
Going Platinum
Lastly, the platinum model, as the name suggests is known for its luxury as well as its performance. The platinum model too has a 365.0-hp, 3.5-liter, V6 Cylinder Engine (Gasoline Fuel) but it has such luxurious features that any other carmaker has failed to make in such SUVs. The interior brings out the class that is not available in other trims of its own, further, it also has the turbo mode. Not just this, it has remarkable features front and rear cameras with washers as well as a hands-free gift late feature which rarely any car has. All of this shows that the 2016 model of Ford Explorer for sure was a banger.
What’s new?
Summing all of it up, the 2016 Ford Explorer presented a range of new notable features. First is of course the Refreshed exterior styling, especially in the Platinum model. The luxury ford has offered in this trim considering an SUV is for sure one of its kind. Even their Larger turbocharged four-cylinder engine, all such at a low price is what makes people eager to buy this SUV. Other outstanding features are the Updated audio and climate controls. Now one does not have to worry about controlling climates or any other thing, the car would do it on its own. Plus, the New hands-free liftgate, again gives it another high level of class. Undoubtedly the 2016 Ford Explorer is a banger.
Good or Bad?
After finalizing an opinion on this car, both aspects have to be well seen. The Improved front-seat ergonomics, make it extremely comfortable and fun and relieving to drive. The Handling and road manners make it a completely safe ride. And of course, the Optional turbo 4-cylinder engine and updated platinum interior, add to the praises for this car. but, Access to the cramped third row is difficult, and Modest cargo space behind 3rd row sure is present, it fails to outshine the good aspects this SUV has to give.
