2016 Nissan Frontier

The Nissan Frontier is one of the best compact pickup trucks in the market right now. Nissan has developed the midsize pickup almost year by year, making a few changes whenever necessary without a grand remodel. Available in King Cab and crew cab body styles, the pickup focuses on comfort, space, safety, and reliability. The 2016 Nissan Frontier feels like the perfect choice in its league and price bracket.

The 2016 Frontier comes in five desirable colors: Brilliant Aluminum Black, Forged Copper, Glacier White, Cayenne Red, and Sherwood Green Pearl. You can choose between two colors for the interior, too: Charcoal and Medium Mocha. It also has front bucket seats, removable under-seat storage, side curtain airbags, and two glove boxes. You can also get leather upholstery, an electronically locked differential, heated front seats, and a moonroof in the advanced models.

Overview of the 2016 Nissan Frontier

The Frontier came available in five trims for the 2016 model year:

  • The Nissan Frontier S is the most basic of the truck’s models and has two-wheel drive. The extended cab version’s manual transmission includes bucket seats for the front, a fully foldable passenger seat, a rear privacy screen, and 15-inch steel wheels. The norm is the automatic transmission, cruise control, audio controls from the steering wheel, and Bluetooth connectivity. As for the crew cab versions, 16-inch steel wheels, a 6-speaker audio system, a sliding rear window, and the hefty V6 engine are the standard.
  • The Nissan Frontier SV is slightly more advanced than its predecessor. Other than all previously mentioned, the SV comes with a 12-volt power outlet, a touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, power locks/mirrors/windows, as well as a keyless entry.
  • The Nissan Frontier Desert Runner is only available in two-wheel-drive V6 in both cab versions. It has all of the features as the previous models, fog lights, an eight-way moveable driver’s seat, special off-road tires, and high-performance shock absorbers for all desert adventures to be as smooth as can be.
  • The Nissan Frontier Pro-4X is made more for the typical off-roader that tends away from the dunes and leans to other non-tarmac surfaces, as is evident with it being solely a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Keeping this in mind, it has automatic headlights, a touchscreen with navigation, particularly tuned shocks, heated front seats, a ten-speaker audio system, and a well-needed first aid kit.
  • The Nissan Frontier SL drops some of the Pro-4X’s off-road-related features but retains the sunroof, moveable seats, rear-center console, and leather upholstery while adding 18-inch alloy wheels with side steps.

Performance

The Nissan Frontier S and SV models sport a hefty 2.5 liter, four-cylinder engine that produces about 152 hp and a torque of 171 lb. However, four-wheel drive is not available for this engine class. The more advanced trims hold the bigger 4.0 liter, V6 engine, generating a more powerful 261 hp and 281 lb of torque.

Fuel Economy

As far as fuel economy is concerned, the four-cylinder engine does about 19 miles per gallon in the city and 23 on the highway (21 mpg combined) in the manual transmission. The automatic variant, gets 17 in the city, 23 on the highway (19 combined). As for the manual-rear wheel-V6, it does 19 combined (17 mpg/22mpg). The front wheeled variation does a lower combination of 18 mpg (16/21). The automatic version for the rear-wheel-V6 does 18 combined (16mpg/22mpg), and for the four-wheel drive, it does a combination of 17 mpg (15/21).

Both engines are 6-speed transmission for the manual and a 5-speed transmission for the automatic.

Quiet interior, ample power, handsome styling

The Nissan Frontier has an exceptionally comfortable ride with a hefty suspension and luxuriously styled interiors (for the SV model and above). The Frontier has a touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, radio, an AUX jack, and a 12-volt power outlet (on some models). The rear seats also have a center console and privacy glass. Higher models also have power steering, mirrors, and windows.

Safety features of the vehicle

All Frontiers come with ABS braking systems, stability control, front-seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags throughout the length. A rearview camera and parking sensors are available in most models, other than the four-cylinder engines and the Desert Runner. The touchscreen can also be adjusted to end emergency calls or collision notifications. In the Edmunds brake testing, the Frontier came to a flat stop in 134 feet from a speed of 60 miles per hour.

Factory Original Nissan Owner’s Manual
