Let’s take you back to when people used only shovels and wheelbarrows to tackle tough jobs and small spaces. However, genius minds made it possible to infuse power and toughness into the equipment that could work even in the narrowest spaces.

It all started when E.G. Melroe and his four sons established the Melroe manufacturing company. To that end, they opened a small factory in North Dakota. Followed by brothers Cyril and Louis Keller being approached by a local Turkey farmer who wanted them to create a machine that could quickly clean manure from the upper floor of his Turkey barn. And they did it! Melroe manufacturing company purchased the rights to an innovative 3-wheeled loader produced by the Keller brothers in 1958 to introduce the M60, the first Melroe self-propelled loader. Bobcat is empowered by the introduction of the new M200.

1960 to 1980s:

In 1960, Melroe introduced the first four-wheel loader, the M400, the world’s first true skid steer loader. Bobcat trademark and its white color debuted in 1962. In the next decade, the Bob tack attachment mounting system debuted. The world’s smallest skid steer loader, the M371, entered the world of construction equipment. The 1980s marked the first secondary restraint seat bar’s introduction; Furthermore, Bobcat compact excavator debuted. The company produced service manuals with all their machinery that featured operational advice, common problems, Bobcat parts diagram, and cautions to direct the owners in the right direction.

1990 to 2000:

The 1990s marked the introduction of 50 series skid steer loaders and the first Bobcat vertical lift patch loader. In the later years of this decade, the first keyless start option is available on bobcat loaders. Moreover, the deluxe instrumentation system and hydraulic power Bob-Tack system became a part of the Bobcat equipment.

2000 until Today:

The Melroe company officially changed its name to Bobcat company in 2000 and became the first manufacturer to build 5,00,000 compact loaders in 2001. The latter years of the new century marked the production of the first ToolCat utility work machine, the first Utility vehicle with a rapid link attachment change system, extendable arm excavator option compact track, and all-wheel steer loaders. During this time, the companies’ focus shifted towards producing electric equipment that would prevent much fuel consumption, reducing their running costs and the operator’s energy requirements. The bobcat company also opened its facilities in dozens of new places, including Minnesota, Litchfield, North Carolina, Gwinner, and Statesville.
