2020 KIA SPORTAGE

The 2020 Kia Sportage is a beautiful vehicle with a strong turbocharged engine. Rivalry amongst newer competitors, on the other hand, is fierce. New headlights, wheels, and a reworked front and back bumper have been added to the Sportage for 2020, as well as an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as standard features.

Overview:

The 2020 KIA SPORTAGE is offered in 4 trim levels:

  • EX: 26 combined MPG
  • LX: 6-Speed A/T
  • S: 26 combined MPG
  • SX Turbo: 23 combined MPG

Performance

Front-wheel drive and a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine generating 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque are standard throughout the Sportage LX, S, and EX trim levels. The new S trim gives the vehicle a more athletic look. Only the regular engine may be ordered, lacking power and refinement but providing greater fuel economy than the turbocharged model. There is an option for all-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission on every model, independent of engine size.

Fuel Economy

With front-wheel drive, the 2020 Kia Sportage has EPA ratings of 23 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg overall; however, all-wheel-drive only achieves 22/26/23 mpg. Competitors are doing much better. To make matters worse, the EPA estimates the Sportage SX’s fuel economy to be only 19 miles per gallon with front-wheel drive and a dismal 19 miles per gallon with all-wheel drive.

Design

Because of its long wheelbase and short overhangs, the Kia Sportage has a more solid look. Although the bumpers of all-wheel-drive models have greater ground clearance for a more rugged look, we enjoy the aesthetics of any Sportage, especially with this year’s facelift. Stylish new wheels and a full-width taillight design give the Sportage a more contemporary look. The vehicle’s external features include chrome, LED lighting, and new aluminum-effect skid plates. Things are much better on the inside, as you can see.

Interior

Additionally, the EX and SX trim levels have leather upholstery that seems to be above the pricing range of the entry-level LX and S trim levels. A power driver’s seat is standard equipment; any optional 10-way power driver’s seat is offered at the top of the trim ladder. The Sportage’s high beltline may make the backseat claustrophobic, but there’s still enough for two or three people in a crisis. Despite its smaller size, the Sportage has 31 cubic feet of storage capacity behind the back seats and 60 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat.

Technology

The Sportage LX’s standard equipment includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. Finally, the inside is given a sportier appearance and feel with the S trim, but no more power or performance is provided. We’ll pass on this one. A power driver’s seat with memory is included in the EX model, as well as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as well as leather upholstery, and an additional USB connection. The Technology Package may be upgraded to add a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, LED interior lighting, and other features. Sportage EX is our first choice, but we wouldn’t bother with any other extras.

Safety Feature

The vehicle scored five stars overall, but only four stars for the front driver’s side and rollover tests for the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. The IIHS has rated the Sportage as a Top Pick for Safety. The use of active safety technologies is now commonplace in many business sectors. The 2020 Kia Sportage now boasts automatic emergency braking and active lane control in addition to lane-departure warnings and rear cross-traffic alerts. The thick rear pillars of the Sportage might obstruct your rearward vision in some scenarios; therefore, we recommend the optional blind-spot monitors.
